For tufted carpets or traditional carpets, an important parameter is the retention performance of their tufts.

This instrument can measure the force required to pull out a single tuft or loop from the carpet, that is, the bonding force between the carpet pile and the backing. Test Method

The carpet sample is fixed by a steel template. Hold one end of the tuft to be tested with a pair of surgical forceps, or hook a loop with a metal hook. The surgical forceps or the metal hook is connected to a force - measuring balance, which is driven by a small electric motor to increase the pulling force at a steady rate. When the tension reaches its limit, the balance shows the required maximum tension. The maximum tension of the balance of the standard instrument is 5kg.
