The online hydrogen meter is a highly intelligent, portable online instrument designed for rapid hydrogen measurement in aluminum melts using the Telegas principle. It operates without external power or gas sources during furnace-side measurements, directly displaying hydrogen content per 100 grams of metal. The instrument stores correction coefficients for nearly 60 alloy types, allowing temperature, alloy type, or correction coefficients to be input via the keyboard. Features include automatic continuous hydrogen/temperature measurement, a large LCD screen for direct hydrogen content display, full Chinese menu-guided operation, and automatic storage/printing of results.

II. Operating Principle of Online Hydrogen Measurement:

Hydrogen is the primary gas dissolved in aluminum and aluminum alloy melts, existing in atomic form with a tendency to escape at any clean, free surface while establishing equilibrium:

Where Pₕ₂ is the equilibrium hydrogen pressure.

At standard atmospheric pressure (1.01325×10⁵ Pa), hydrogen solubility S is known (determined for many alloys). Gas content G correlates to equilibrium pressure Pᵢ via:
G = S × (Pᵢ / atm)¹/²
(atm = 1.01325×10⁵ Pa)

Pᵢ is the critical parameter measured by the hydrogen meter, converted to precise gas content in liters per 100 grams of metal under standard conditions. Since S increases significantly with temperature, melt temperature must be measured simultaneously during gas content analysis.

During testing, a stream of pure nitrogen is injected into the aluminum melt via a dual-bore ceramic probe. Hydrogen atoms diffuse into nitrogen bubbles, though this transfer is relatively slow even for small bubbles. The instrument's circulation system continuously cycles nitrogen between the device and melt, enabling continuous gas composition measurement and equilibrium content indication.

IV. RT-CQY-500 Usage Precautions:

  1. Probe Connection: Use "long-out, short-in" configuration when connecting the probe to the preamplifier. Insert into the preamplifier's O-rings and tighten the cap securely.
  2. Preheating: Preheat used probes for >10 minutes and new probes for >15 minutes before immersion in aluminum melt.
  3. Melt Flow Rate: Ensure the measured aluminum melt has sufficiently slow flow and adequate depth.
  4. Probe Immersion: Clear oxide layers and impurities from the melt surface before immersion. Open the instrument's "purge valve" to fill the probe with nitrogen. Maintain vertical alignment and immerse to the 7.5 cm mark (indicated on the probe).
  5. Manual Sampling: After immersion, press "purge" multiple times. Only "zero" the meter after stable readings appear, then proceed to "measure."
  6. Post-Measurement: Open the "purge valve" before removing the probe from the melt.

Recommendation for Probe Usage: Rotate probes between uses to extend service life. Allow natural cooling after use—avoid forced or rapid cooling methods.
